ActivitiesOur chapter offers a wide range of activities. Some activities are for children and adults, while others are just for adults. |
OUR ACTIVITIES FAMILY & YOUTH ACTIVITIES Being a single parent can be exhausting. It is tough to be the source of entertainment for your kids when there are other responsibilities to plan for. PWP takes some of the work out of planning by organizing events for you and your children to enjoy together with other single parent families. Our Family & Youth events are planned to give parents a chance to have fun with other chapter members and their children. Suggestions come from the membership and events are often subsidized, making outings more affordable for families who may have limited funds. Family activities offer your children the opportunity to see other families who are similar to their own, and allow parents to socialize with each other in a fun child-oriented setting. Family & Youth events include day outings such as sports events, hiking, bowling, theatre, crafts, and any other events suggested by our volunteers. During summer and school holidays there are also larger scale outings planned, such as camping. Family events are designed to cater to a variety of ages, ranging from toddlers to school-age children to teens. There is no alcohol permitted at Family and Youth events. PARENT ACTIVITIES Adults need a time to relax and spend time with friends away from the responsibilities of running a home. These events provide an opportunity to socialize with other single adults, in a no-pressure environment. Adult members are invited to participate in a wide range of other social activities. Many members have formed lasting friendships as a result of group activities. As with other events, if our members express an interest in trying out a new spot, or exploring a specific area of interest we try to make it happen. Parent activities may include dinners out, pub nights, dancing, live music, theater, hiking, golf and additional house parties. BEING A SINGLE PARENT Being a single parent can be challenging, as can learning to co-parent successfully. PWP hosts discussions and provides guest speakers on a wide variety of topics relevant to members. These events are intended to share information with members and to facilitate discussion about those challenges faced by single parents. These could include parenting issues, issues related to separation or bereavement, finances or even dating. Another important aspect of PWP is the participation of our volunteers. The Board of Directors meets on a monthly basis (on the first Tuesday of every month). Calendar planning is monthly with input received from the members. Members are welcome to attend the Board Meetings. |
